Michael Stack was born in 1947 in New York and raised in California. He is self-taught and has always been interested in art, primarily landscape painting. For the past twenty years he has lived and painted in New Mexico and Arizona, seeking to capture on canvas the vastness of the Southwestern landscape. His focus is a fleeting moment of shadow, light and color that awakens an emotional response in the viewer.
Many publications have featured his art, including Southwest Art (1987), Southwest Art (cover, 1992), Art of the West (cover, September 1993), US Art (cover Santa Fe Concert Catalog), and Southwest Art: Covering the West.
In 1996 Michael was Tucson's Artist of the Year and he is now a master artist with the Artists of America show in Denver, Colorado. He has participated in numerous one-man and group shows, and his paintings are included in collections in the United States, Europe, and Japan.
