Marilyn Yates

Having studied the light and atmosphere of New Mexico for over 25 years, Marilyn Yates maintains a home and studio in Santa Fe among the pinions and chamisas of Eldorado. The views of three mountain ranges and colorful sunsets provide endless inspiration for her landscapes while a garden filled with roses, lilacs and peonies produces abundant material for her still-life work. Her palette is influenced by the color and light peculiar to New Mexico.

Marilyn began painting at the age of 5 in her native Chicago. After a move to California she received her BFA degree from California State University at Los Angeles. A brief career as an educator in the California public school system followed before she decided to pursue her passion for painting. Marilyn has been a professional artist for over 35 years. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States, and it is represented in public and private collections world-wide. The recipient of numerous awards for her work in watercolor and acrylics, Marilyn was honored for her still-life paintings by International Artist Magazine, and her landscapes were awarded special recognition by the respected American Women Artists organization.
