David Mayer

David W. Mayer is a member of the Oil Painters of America (OPA), as well as the American Impressionist Society (AIS) and and a past member of the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters (RMPAP). He is an avid impressionist and plein air landscape painter with an emphasis on portraying the beauty of the Rocky Mountain West as well as the Southwest, California and the West Coast.

David has studied with Scott Christensen, T. Allen Lawson, Kevin Mac Pherson, and Ted Goerschner as well as through the writings and works of Richard Schmid, Edgar Payne, Joaquin Sorolla and the California Impressionists. While he was an award winning water colorist who studied with Tony Couch, David has concentrated exclusively on oil painting for the past ten years.

He was a Manager in corporate publishing as well as an Art Director and Creative Director in print, web, interactive media and marketing communications prior to painting full time as a professional landscape artist.
David has won major national awards such as the “Award of Excellence” at the annual national exhibition of the Oil Painters of America (OPA) and an award at the Salon International Show. He has has sold out shows at the Arts of Denver Gallery and at the C.M. Russell events during March in Montana.

He has the honor of being the highest selling painter at the 2010 Greeley Stampede Art Show, and has shown and sold in numerous national miniature shows including the prestigious Settlers West Gallery annual show. David has participated in national plein air events such as the Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters (RMPAP) and the 2010 Telluride Plein Air show and sale and was featured in a June, 2009 article in the “Plein Air” Issue of Southwest Art Magazine.

Collections

David’s oil paintings are held in prestigious private collections in Jackson, Wyoming; Aspen, Colorado; Hilton Head, South Carolina; Valley Forge, Pennsylvania as well as Alaska, Arizona, Texas, New Mexico and elsewhere throughout the United States and Europe. His work is also in the permanent corporate collections of the Pueblo Bank and Trust in Colorado and the SAS Institute in North Carolina. He has donated paintings for selected charity fundraisers, including charities that provide medical support for the children of Tibet and Project Angel Heart in Denver.

The fine art of David W. Mayer captures the beauty and color of Colorado and West, from the high plains to the Rocky Mountains and from the Pacific Coast to the desert Southwest. His paintings let you experience first-hand the warm light of a prairie morning, the soft, cool colors of blue-shadowed snow, and the brilliant gold of a high country late Autumn day.
