Les
Perhacs - At the age of six, he began welding beside his Hungarian
born father, a master machinist and inventor. This structured work
inspired organization and independent thinking. During his studies
at Pratt University in New York, he embraced the Bauhaus principle
of "form follows function." Instruction from Willem de Kooning,
Buckminster Fuller and David Smith, among others, provided a solid
foundation for his lifelong career in sculpture. For 30 years, Perhacs
has been casting bronzes and sculpting stone to create animal forms.
His designs reflect his interest in the spirit and poetry of the animal
versus its duplication. His sculpture has been collected by numerous
museum and corporations in Washington including the Whatcorn Museum,
as well as the San Diego International Airport. He has enjoyed membership
with the Artists of America, National Sculpture Society, Who's Who
in American Art and Contemporary Western Artists.
